I hope they come up with more cool ways to use the Keystone. While I wish Armoury Crate was a much better piece of software, I do reckon it does a few things well. I've never seen any other manufacturer experimenting with hardware like this, and I am really digging what ASUS is doing here. Like I said, the Keystone looks really cool and it adds a bit of a personality to the laptop, in my opinion. Well, those are some of the awesome things which the Keystone can do. But as soon as I get back home and I am ready to game, I dock the Keystone and BOOM! All my game settings and RGB profile is loaded and ready to go. Since there's too much RGB on the SCAR III, I like to keep the lights off when I am, say, at work or in a meeting. and load it every time with just the Keystone. In addition to the lighting settings, you can also save other settings like the fan speed, game mode, etc. I like the idea of having a shadow drive on my laptop, but the custom profile linking is what I used it for the most. This is what I primarily use the Keystone for.

So every time you insert the Keystone, your custom profile will automatically load you'll be good to go.

With the Keystone, you can create your custom lighting profile on ASUS' Armoury Crate software and have it saved. It's got RGB lights for days! But with too much RGB, comes the responsibility of customization.Ĭustomizing the RGB lights and making it cool is probably what I spend the first few hours of my time with a new laptop. In fact, that's one of the reasons why I love SCAR III. Heck, I'd like to have RGB lighting on everything if I can. Your Key To CustomizationĪs a gamer, I've come to appreciate the importance of RGB lighting. I personally don't have a lot of things to keep hidden, but I see how this can be helpful to a lot of people. You can store your personal data, programs, files, etc., and make sure no one gets to see them unless they have the Keystone.Īnother cool thing that you can do is link the shadow drive to multiple Keystones so that different people with different Keystones can access the encrypted files. You're not essentially adding any additional storage, but you're simply keeping a part of your storage hidden. The encrypted storage space is a part of the main storage of the laptop. This functionality makes it feel like a key, quite literally. Yes, you can pair the Keystone to your laptop and link a virtual drive to it, which shows up every time you insert the Keystone. So the first, and probably the most the important functionality of the Keystone is that it unlocks a hidden drive. I also like how it adds a subtle accent along the trim of the laptop.īut in addition to looking cool, the Keystone also has some neat functionalities. It's got magnets to help it fit neatly into the body of the laptop and it sits flush without any protrusion. So, the Keystone is essentially an NFC key that you get with the ROG SCAR III and the ROG Hero 3 laptops. However, I found myself using it a lot more than I thought I would and here's everything that you need to know about the 'Keystone'. Looks pretty cool, right? But what exactly does it do? Well, at first I thought it was just a gimmick which I'd probably never even bother using.

I've been using the ROG Scar III as my daily driver for quite some time now, and it comes with a really cool piece of hardware called 'Keystone'. ASUS' ROG lineup of laptops have been my favorite as they have come up with some really cool-looking laptops in the past few months. That, however, changed recently as we started seeing sleeker and lighter gaming notebooks.Īnd with that change, a lot of manufacturers also started experimenting with cool things when it comes to the hardware.

By same I mean, you'd mostly see these bulky, cumbersome machines that are often unwieldy to carry around. Gaming laptops have remained more or less the same for the past few years.
